Pilots Plan Strike Against American Airlines
The employees of American Airlines have been waiting in limbo for months to see what their future holds. After talks of severe pension and benefit cuts circulated the rumor mill, employee unions have gone on the initiative in attempt to save their hard earned payouts.

American Airlines employees certainly have suffered the brunt of the airline bankruptcy since the filing late last year. After numerous rounds of job cuts and mandatory furloughs, further threats now come by way of eliminating contractual union obligations.
Fed up with waiting around only to have their voices drowned out in court, the pilot’s union is planning a major strike if their contracts are thrown out in bankruptcy court. The Allied Pilots Association is preparing for an employee strike as chances the bankruptcy court backs American Airlines increases. 8,000 active pilots are expected to join in the strike opposing the cuts to employee pensions and benefit funds.
Despite big plans, federal law makes it difficult for airlines to legally strike. However, the pilot’s union is hoping for a successful stand down and a clear message to be sent. The voting over contractual futures begins this week and a final decision is expected by September 4th.
